Lemon Balm is a perennial herb which grows to around 1.5 meters. Its leaves are oval with toothed edges and have strong lemon scent. The flowers are borne from summer to autumn and are white to pale blue when mature.

Native to southern Europe, western Asia and northern Africa, lemon balm is now grown throughout the world.

Over the centuries many comments have been made about the positive effects of Lemon Balm. It was used medicinally by the Greeks some 2000 years ago and in 1696 the London Dispensary stated: “Balm given every morning will renew youth, strengthen the brain and relieve languishing nature.”

Lemon Balm is reputed to be particularly effective on greasy hair, while it’s inclusion in a bath soak may help to release its relaxing and soothing properties.

Lemon Balm has been traditionally used for, amongst other things, healing wounds, relieving palpitations and relaxing the heart. It has also been used to treat toothache, relieve digestion problems and relieve cold sores and reduce the chance of further viral outbreaks.
